A very special 2-bedroom comfy maisonette, boasting exquisite sea views over the picturesque Porto Rafti bay. This rare gem of a holiday home is small, cozy and tucked away on a hill just above ‘Agios Spiridon’ beach with its bus terminal, cafes, shops and tavernas, only around a 15min walk. The famous beach of ‘Erotospilia’, a charming and well-cherished swimming destination for many Athenians, sitting on a scenic bay in an azure blue and leafy green landscape, is also less than 15 mins walk away.

The Maisonette

This family holiday home was created and designed so that as a family, the owners could enjoy the larger part of our summer holidays (as well as those special winter time breaks by the fireplace!) in a beautiful and scenic rural setting with spectacular views over the bay and the mesmerizing sunset, while also being in proximity to Athens so that any one of us could pop over in a short drive, if there was a need to do so. The maisonette was therefore conceptualized and crafted with love and care, bearing in mind how they as a family could make the most of its spaces and with the aim of creating a relaxing and soothing getaway for them and their children.

Boasting exquisite views over the Porto Rafti bay, offering the possibility of walking to a few very loved and cherished beaches and swimming in the deep blue Athenian Riviera sea, this special little nest was built to be a cozy retreat both for a couple and a family alike.

Entering the maisonette’s garden from the street where there is ample free parking if you need it, through the front gate, there is a green little garden with an outdoor sitting area where you could enjoy your breakfast, lunch or dinner, sip on a cocktail or a glass of wine, when the sun on the veranda is too warm and/or you are in the mood for a more ‘garden-feel’, cooler setting to relax in. A staircase then leads you up to the first floor, and to the front door of the maisonette. Another staircase leads one down to the front side of the garden, planted with local flowers and vegetation like lavenders, thyme, oregano and other rural flora. And looking out onto the bay and sea.

Interior

The interior of the maisonette was designed to make the most of its space, and is built in a unique architectural style. One enters into a very comfy small living room which boasts a very high and traditional beamed ceiling, a cozy sofa (which could also serve as a single bed for a 5th visitor), coffee tables, a flat screen TV and a fireplace. The living room looks out on to the balcony with its own sitting/dining table, with the breathtaking direct and uninterrupted views over the sea, the bay and the surrounding hills and sunset.

The modern fully equipped small open-plan kitchen is on the side of the living room, and a corridor leads to the bathroom and the first bedroom, equipped with a double sofa bed and looking out into the same balcony with the charming sea and bay views. A staircase on the corner of the living room leads upstairs, where the 2nd bedroom with its beamed ceiling has been designed in an ‘open-plan’ fashion too, offering a bird’s eye view of lovely living room below. This bedroom is a true cozy little nest for couples, with its own views towards the bay and sea from the window as well.

We have therefore worked hard to create the ideal ‘pied-a-terre’ in this lovey traditional holiday village and community that sits on the bay of Porto Rafti. Though just a short trip away from central Athens, the maisonette gives one the opportunity to enjoy all that the Attica countryside and Riviera has to offer – from traditional tavernas, to scenic walks and sun-filled swims to remember, plus the most relaxing and quiet sleeping sessions ever, and so much more!

The name of ‘Porto Rafti’ bay literally means ‘Port of the Tailor’. Rumor has it that the name comes from a tailor that used to live on the picturesque little island that sits in the bay. It just gives the area even more of a feel from the past and enriches the feelings of excitement and nostalgia when vacationing in this beautiful rural community, rich in history and culture (there are various monuments and archaeological sites to visit in the area), that has served as the perfect getaway for Athenians and other visitors alike for more than a century.

Whereabouts

The community of Porto Rafti bay is located on the Eastern side of Attica, on the coast of the Attica Riviera and in close proximity to the ports of Rafina and Lavrio, where one can catch daily ferries to many of the celebrated islands of the Aegean Sea.  The name Porto Rafti literally means ‘Port of the Tailor’, and rumor has it that its origins lie in the early 20th century when a tailor used to live on the picturesque little island that sits in the bay.

The area has been a well-cherished holiday spot for Athenians for many decades, as its pine-filled, multi-coloured and deep blue sea relaxing Attican landscape is ideal for enjoying a great Greek holiday, while being in proximity to Athens, with the vast number of monuments, archaeological sites, museums and rich culture it has to offer.  The area itself, especially neighboring Vravrona, Artemida, Lavrio, Sounio with its world-renowned Temple of Poseidon, and the historical city of Marathon which gave its name to Marathons organised internationally across the globe, are only a short drive (around 15-45 minutes mostly depending on location) away.

The surrounding area therefore also has much to offer in this regard to the avid traveller and the occasional visitor interested in ancient history and culture. The wider area also boasts a large number of choices when it comes to swimming and beach locations, and is well-known for its culinary choices, especially fresh seafood, traditional ‘home-cooked’ cuisine and meat/bbq-type feasts!

Access

Guests have complete and exclusive access to the flat, its spacious veranda accessible from the living room and bedroom with the superb views towards Porto Rafti bay and the sea, as well as its comfy outdoor sitting area in the garden, on the front porch. Guests also have shared access to the lovely small garden on the front of the property, where the owner may occasionally reside on the ground floor flat, hence this not being described as complete and exclusive access to the whole garden 100% of the time.

The owner aims to be discrete while also approachable and helpful to her guests, respecting your privacy and only being available when needed to assist with anything you may need!

Host Availability

The owner of the Maisonette will be available for whatever you may need. She known to be quite good with giving ‘insider’ knowledge to guests with regards to the best places to eat, drink, swim or visit! Please do not hesitate to ask her about a number of exciting activities in the area. She is committed to making this an exceptional and unforgettable holiday and enjoy your stay in our friendly unique location. Needless to say, her presence can be discrete in the same way it can be helpful and she will honour your privacy at all times!

Directions & Getting around

A car is recommended to further enrich your experience of staying in the Sea & Sunset view appartment and to visit the many unique places that Attica has to offer.

However, a public bus runs a regular service to Porto Rafti from Athens. The itinerary can be provided at request. However, as it’s itinerary can often be infrequent, we recommend that you rent a car for the duration of your stay. This will enable you to experience the diverse beauty permeating the whole Attica Region, and discover its hideaways, magnificent contradictions and surprises.

  • We would kindly ask that you respect the neighbours at all times. We urge your attention to the following ‘quiet hours’ enforced by law; during which you must pay special attention; so that there is no disturbing or excessive noise coming from the accommodation:
    • Summer quiet hours (Apr.1-Sep30): 3PM-5.30PM & 11PM-7AM
    • Winter quiet hours (Oct.1-Mar.31): 3.30PM-5.30PM & 10PM-7.30AM
  • Upon arrival guests must display a valid form of identification (ID or passport). Also, a short-term rental agreement must be signed as required by current Greek law under the Greek taxation system. Guests will not be able to check in if this requirement is not satisfied.
  • This accommodation’s refurbishment and interior design was constructed utilising the finest materials. We expect you to respect it accordingly. Any damages will incur the relevant charges. In case these are not covered by the deposit held, additional charges will be claimed.
  • A range of services can also be arranged on request: Daily cleaning and/or cooking staff, assistance regarding use of the facilities, Transportation & Chauffeur Services, Boat Charters and Trips and other Tailor Made Services. Please just ask.
